Happy Saturday, friends!
Today, I am thinking of Paul Valéry’s remark that “God created man and, finding him not sufficiently alone, gave him a companion to make him feel his solitude more keenly.”
It’s certainly one take on the creation story…
Like many, I have long been drawn to poems about the Garden of Eden—in particular, the many angles and approaches available to poets who take on the subject of Eve. (In fact, Orison Books just published Between Paradise & Earth, an anthology of poems about Eve edited by Nomi Stone and Luke Hankins.)
So, today, I thought I’d share my Top 11 (I couldn’t narrow it down to 10!) poems about Eve. Honestly, these poems blow me away—their wit, subtlety, and music gives a story we all know fresh energy, complexity, and life.
I hope you enjoy them. Comment and let me know which is/are your favorite below.
