Dear Friends,

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. — Anne Bradstreet.

If people did not love one another, I really don't see what use there would be in having any spring. — Victor Hugo.

I love how these spring “if”s capture the duress of winter and its human equivalent—the spectrum of feelings opposite love.

In that spirit, this week’s Rx: of spring poems speaks to a range of emotions.

I’ve so been looking forward to putting together today’s selection. Spring is one of the miracles I never tire of. Ditto its poems.

As always, let me know which poems most resonated with you.

P.S.

The poems and excerpts I’ve posted on X since 2020 are now on Instagram. If you like browsing through a poetry grid, this will be welcome news. Follow @thepoetryrx.

P.P.S.

Below the paywall, a link to this weekend’s Poetry Today Zoom craft class on Emily Dickinson, dictionaries, and riddles. Sunday, 3-5 pm EST (replays available!).
