Dear Friends,
Yesterday, I found myself revisiting a passage from Mary Ruefle’s “On Secrets.” In typical Ruefle fashion, the essay offers a wonderfully idiosyncratic accumulation of unlikeliness(es). Here, it narrows (or perhaps widens) on the heart, “a symbol or souvenir of the inner life.”
Since you all very much have hearts, this roundup of poems is in honor of them. Two Substack poets are included in the mix: the gorgeous “Counting” by
and the impactful “Facebook Sonnet” by . Do seek out more of their writing on Substack and elsewhere. (A reminder that I check this thread weekly to choose a poem from our Poetry Today community to include in my weekly selections).Enjoy!

P.S.
Below the paywall, I’ve included a discount code for Paid Subscribers for 50% off all craft class replays until April 2nd. There’s an 8-hour course on literary criticism and 2-hour craft classes on how to put together a chapbook, re-imagining the process of revision, how to contain and revise long/sequence poems, and many other relevant topics. I loved putting these courses together and hope they serve you.
